Biography Torei Enji (1721-1792) was a monk of Rinzai sect born in Ohmi (present Shiga Prefecture). Studied under Kogetsu Zenzai of Daiko-ji Temple in Hyuga and succeeded the teachings after learning Hakuin Ekaku of Shoin-ji Temple in Suruga. Founded Ryutaku-ji Temple in Izu (present Shizuoka Prefecture).
