Artist Mori Ippo
Title Two Rabbits with Autumn Flowers
Biography Mori Ippo (1798–1871) was a Japanese painter born in Osaka. His given name was Takayuki, and his courtesy name was Shiko. He studied painting under Mori Tetsuzan, and became his son-in-law by marrying Tetsuzan’s daughter Yanagi, thereby succeeding the Mori school of painting. He was active primarily in Osaka, later serving the Hosokawa family, the feudal lords of the Higo-Kumamoto Domain. Mori was a leading figure in the Osaka art circles. Among his fellow pupils were Mori Kansai and Wada Gozan, while his disciples included Mochizuki Kinpo and Mori Niho. His work "Mokarisabune-zu" (“Reed-cutting Boat”) is known for having been cherished as an auspicious motif among Osaka merchant families.
