Artist Sugimoto Kenkichi

Biography Sugimoto Kenkichi(1905-2004) was a Western-style painter and illustrator born in Aichi Prefecture. As a graphic designer, he created illustrations and commercial posters. He studied in Kyoto under Kishida Ryusei. He also illustrated works including Yoshikawa Eiji’s "Shin Heike Monogatari". He kept a studio at Kannon-in Temple in Todaiji, Nara, and maintained close friendships with literary and artistic figures such as Shiga Naoya and Irie Taikichi. Approximately 5,000 of his works are held in the Sugimoto Art Museum in Chita District, Aichi Prefecture.
