Biography Yoshida Hatsusaburō was a painter born in Kyoto Prefecture. His family name was originally Izumi. He began his career as a Yuzen textile pattern designer, and at the age of 25, he studied Western-style painting under Kanokogi Takeshirō. Upon his teacher’s advice, he shifted his focus to commercial art. His first bird’s-eye view map, "Keihan Densha Goannai" ("A Guide to the Keihan Railway"), was praised by the then-Crown Prince, later Emperor Showa. He established the Taisho Meisho-zu Kaisha (Taisho Famous Places Illustration Company), and became widely known as the "Hiroshige of the Taisho era" for his detailed and vivid panoramic maps. Over his lifetime, he produced more than 1,600 artworks.
