Title	Gokyoka (Religious Waka) Byobu
Biography	Nissen Shōnin (1817–1890) was a priest of the Nichiren-shū Buddhist tradition, born in Kyoto Prefecture. He was originally named Oji Seijirou, later adopting the name Nagahama Seifu, upon entering the priesthood. He is best known by his Buddhist name, Nissen. At the age of 29, he studied under Shuten Nichiou, a priest at Honno-ji Temple, through whom he entered the Honmon Hokkeshu tradition. At the age of 32, he became a disciple of Mujaku Nichiyo at Ryūsen-ji temple on Awaji Island. In 1857, Nissen founded the Honmon Butsuryu kou (Lecture Society)—a movement not seen as a sect established by a patriarch or religious founder, but rather a tradition believed to have been established by the Buddha himself. He was also a respected poet and calligrapher.
