Artist Nakajima Raisho
Title Ascending Carp
Biography Nakajima Raisho(1796-1871) was a painter born in Omi Province (current Shiga Prefecture). Originally styled Shikei, also known as Shunbunsai. He first studied under Watanabe Nangaku, then became a discipline of Maruyama Ouzui. Alongside Yokoyama Seiki, Shiokawa Bunrin, Kishi Renzan, he was celebrated as one of the "Four Great Masters of Kyoto (Heian shimeike)". He excelled in painting bird-and -flower painting (Kachouga), especially depictions of carp and quail. Kono Bairei and Kawabata Gyokushou are his disciplines.
